Who we are:

My name is Melinda. I am licensed as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.

My path to becoming an NP was different than most. I completed my bachelor's degree and floundered, not finding a career that I felt happy with before returning to college and becoming a nurse and then a nurse practitioner. All throughout school I was the 'go to' person to listen to other people's problems so mental health and psychiatry seemed like the obvious choice.

I became an RN in 2011 and have worked in a wide variety of settings, ranging from Department of Corrections to mental health crisis centers.

Starting in 2013 I started working as an NP. I have worked extensively with serious mental illness and addiction. Additionally, I have personal experience with depression, anxiety and substance use in my family. As a nurse practitioner I incorporate my insight from all my various life experiences and work settings to create an individualized plan that addresses the patient as a whole person, not just their mental health medication.

When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary. The people we trust with that important talk can help us know that we are not alone.

What do we treat?

Mental Health

  • a state of well-being enabling individuals to cope with life's stresses, realize their abilities, and contribute to their community (WHO)

  • critical aspect of overall well-being, encompassing emotional, psychological, and social health, and influencing how individuals think, feel, act, cope with stress, relate to others, and make choices (SAMHSA)

Mental illness can become a chronic condition

An illness, disease, or malady that a person will have to deal with long term. It is possible to reach recovery but in many cases maintenance treatment will be required to prevent relapse.

Our Goals:

De-stigmatization

Mental illness is often stigmatized in society, making it more difficult for people to seek treatment out of fear of judgement and ridicule. We seek to create an environment where a person does not need to fear seeking to control their chronic conditions and improve their health and lives.

How do we do this?

  • To provide with knowledge or training in a particular area or for a particular purpose

  • To equip people with the tools and knowledge needed to engage in self advocacy.

  • The skill of being able to put your needs into words and takes steps to obtain remission and recovery.

I listen and focus on what my client wants to work on. Throughout my career I have worked with adults who live with depression, bipolar, anxiety, PTSD, schizophrenia, substance abuse and personality disorders. I take enjoyment in seeing people doing better and moving forward with their lives.

My goal is to make a safe environment where my client can be open and honest about what they are struggling with so we can get to the heart of the issue(s). I want to assist them in taking control of their mental health and minimizes their symptoms in order to obtain recovery

  • A lessening of intensity or degree of symptoms, prior to recovery.

  • A long term state where mental health symptoms are under control and do not interfere with your day to day life.

  • Reoccurrence of symptoms. This can be a new episode of symptoms or related to a chronic condition. There can be a trigger, or cause, for a relapse, or it can happen spontaneously.
