How do I deal with the world today?

We all know that times are changing. We don't have to walk 5 miles up hill both ways in the snow to get to school anymore, but we face other types of adversity. We survived years of lockdown and fear from COVID, the political atmosphere can be overwhelming and it seems like everyday there is more violence. The difference from even 10 years ago is staggering. We now have to contend with constant information: everyone has social media to voice their opinion and 24 hour access to news (which has learned to catastrophize even better than before).
The question is how do we cope with this? How do we help the next generation to face these new challenges?
The answer is self care.
Be a little selfish and take 5 minutes a day for yourself. Get some exercise, take a bubble bath, scream into a pillow. It sounds easy, but doing it is hard.
But ask yourself: how can you take care of anyone else (spouse, child, parent, friend) if you are struggling to care for yourself.

If you let yourself get overwhelmed your natural resiliency can’t do it’s job and the adversity wins.

Adversity: An unfortunate event or circumstance; an ill chance; a misfortune or calamity: generally in the plural. Synonyms Trouble, distress, misery, disaster, woe, ill luck

Resiliency: the ability of something to return to its original size and shape after being compressed or deformed
